”On the (Constant) Metamorphosis of Marble on Site”
Saturday 26.7. klo 14
Marble in Helsinki? Yes!
Few people know this, but there are marble deposits in Finland, and one of them is right here in Helsinki, in Vuosaari.
Join artist Mireia c. Saladrigues for a visit to an abandoned marble quarry to explore the unique characteristics of local marble, learn about its history of extraction, when the quarry closed, and what the marble was used for. We’ll also take a closer look at the rocks on site, including some that show signs of weathering and degradation, especially those that have been exposed to fire for unknown reasons.
The event is held in English.
Meeting:
Niinisaarentien alikäytävä 00960 Helsinki at 14.
From there walk together about 10 minutes to the site.
Accessibility: The path to the quarry is a broad, sandy road. Access into the abandoned quarry is limited, but the site can be viewed clearly from above, along the main road.
Duration of the tour in quarry is approximately 45 minutes. If the weather is good, we’ll wrap up with a casual picnic. Feel free to bring your own food.
The event is is free of charge and open to everyone.
The participants are not insured by the organizer.
