Night of the arts: Clown performance

Thursday 15.8. at 17.30–19

Kunsthalle Helsinki arranges a silent clown performance during the Night of the Arts as a preview for the upcoming exhibition by Ugo Rondinone, which opens the following night. Clowns can be spotted in the centre of Helsinki.

The vocabulary of solitudeinstallation, which will be on view at the Kunsthalle exhibition, was originally a performance. The piece consists of clowns in different passive positions. Rondinonen balances between joy and sorrow: clowns are traditionally meant to be funny and entertaining, but Rondinone’s clowns are sombre and thoughtful, almost melancholy.

Please note that the Kunsthalle is closed during the Night of the Arts. Ugo Rondinone’s exhibition will open to the public on Saturday, 17thAugust. The exhibition is organized in collaboration with the Helsinki Festival.

Find clowns by the Kunsthalle, Kansalaistori Square, Senate Square, Esplanade Park and the Koulupuistikko Park by the Design Museum.
