Responsibility
Kunsthalle Helsinki is cheeky, joyful, and warm. At Kunsthalle, we challenge ourselves and our partners to adopt increasingly sustainable and responsible practices. We aim to reduce our environmental impact by adhering to the EcoCompass environmental management system.
Kunsthalle Helsinki is a member of Finland’s Sustainable Visual Arts Network and a project partner of the Green Art (Vihreä taide) initiative. In 2025, we will serve as the chair organisation of the network in collaboration with the Artists’ Association of Finland.
The aims of our EcoCompass work:
- Implementing both small, everyday improvements and striving for significant changes
- Ensuring sustainability and responsibility permeate the entire organisation, from exhibitions and audience engagement to customer service and the museum shop
- Communicating sustainability perspectives to our audience, partners, subcontractors, and funders
- Allocating time for sustainability work, keeping up with societal discussions, and updating our knowledge on sustainability and developments in the field
- Actively participating in sustainability initiatives within the arts sector
The focus areas of EcoCompass work at the Kunsthalle include procurement, waste, energy consumption, materials, and communication.
Our EcoCompass actions include:
- Procuring environmentally friendly products and services
- Improving waste sorting
- Reducing carbon emissions and energy consumption
- Minimising material waste
- Developing communication practices and raising environmental awareness
